The Minimum Qualification for an MBA

A Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is often pursued by business people looking for advancement. MBA-studies focuses on areas such as marketing, finance, accounting and operations management. The minimal qualifications for MBA programs vary by school; but most have minimum educational and testing requirements.

Training

A bachelor's degree from an accredited University is typically the minimum educational requirements to MBA candidates. Many schools do not require a specific level or area of study. But courses in calculus, statistics, and economics is often recommended. Some schools have a minimum grade point average (GPA) requirements, while others are not.

Application and Forms

In order to apply for most MBA programs, you must fill out the University's application form and send in the application fee, which varies by school. Other documents typically required include transcripts showing your GPA, a CV and essays. MBA application essays are designed to learn more about you as a person, your goals and the contributions you have made in the workplace. Sample essay topics include "lasting effects that you have made in the workplace" and "How an MBA will help you reach your career wishes." Two or three letters of recommendation are also typically required. Professional recommendations from supervisors and employees, indicating your strengths as a Manager and leader is highly regarded. Application deadlines vary from school. Many schools have multiple application deadlines throughout the year for admission to the fall, spring or summer semesters.

Standardized Tests

MBA programs typically require a standardized test. The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is most commonly required. GMAT consists of three parts: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing.
