The Blu-ray player BDP 51 FD pioneer (500 euro) convinces with a quiet, plastic and bright image and very musical sound – analog and digital. Boat and start operations are likely to be however faster.

It is no coincidence that the BDP 51 FD similarities to the BDP LX 71 (issue 10/08) has: it served as the basis for the 51, representing ‘light’ so to speak a LX 71. A few silver applications featuring the noble Kuro series, missing on the front and the remote control and the back has to make do with simpler cinch Sockets. Inside modestly is the developer in the analog output stages with slightly simpler components. Still, For 500 euros, currently no second manufacturer offers a player that outwardly so much.
Already during commissioning, pioneer developers indicating that they understand something about home theater and its complexity and offer a more or less self-explanatory quick configuration that fits the player in all important parameters to the system: he calls himself “Setup-Navigator”. When testing, he was somewhat annoying, because thus, Pioneer also sets whether the player sets the tone digital or analogue. What testing high-speed switching between analog – and digital sound prevents, but helps the quality, because what is not functioning, not spark in between the different kind of signal.
Like its big brothers a model configurability with such detailed parameters such as hardly anyone offers also the 51 otherwise, as to the adjustment of the HDMI signal to exotic image encoder. To complete missing only the network connector and BD-live also dispenses with the LX 71.
In the test room, the lead Wolf faithfully followed the 51 and showed on the big screen a crystal clear and calm with full HD picture. The de-interlacing almost ingeniously solved the pioneer developer, it focuses but after the progressive status bit and switches immediately. This is missing an image analysis only begins after a few seconds and very sluggish controls the full image intensifier, which almost excludes misconduct.
The scaler does its work with flying colors, can be switched off but also exemplary via “Source Direct”. Of other manufacturers can cut off a disc to which can be switched off always scale the image. The decoding was always calm and confident, as’s the tester at the same time with Java menus, picture-in picture and secondary audio from the science fiction-Blu-ray “Serenity” negatively impacted.
In the listening passage, the testers were excited to see how much the austerity of the engineers had to slim down the BDP 51 compared to the excellent BDP LX 71 in the performance. Left a lot of analog and digital CD, sounded he yet musically fluent, fine drawing, and the image kept, with DVD and Blu-ray. Loss: just one point per discipline.
Congratulations to pioneer: the BDP 51 FD should probably sit for awhile the quality reference mark for 500 euro.
