The Isophon Odessa (8000 euros the pair) like with a Bell-clear and neutral playing style fits well with dröhnen explosive areas. Just the speaker stand thought to her is sonically not optimal, because too little stable.
- Compact speaker Isophon Odessa
- Data sheet
A real treat for the fans of very compact high end speaker comes from Isophon: with a body width of just 19 cm one Odessa of the particularly delicate representatives of its genus. Optically and technically their first appearance in stereoplay resembles the stand box designed, much larger in all dimensions Vescova, 8/2008 is the testers in remembered and that since then sells bread as cut.
Like her idol, she uses two reasons lattice reinforced cone driver with extremely rigid and breakable ceramic membranes and a dome made of the same material with inverse, i.e. inward curved membrane Odessa.
The tweeter is the bigger sister, the cone drivers but are each two centimeters smaller. The difference in the internal volume is much more serious. Here is both the missing housing bottom noticeable as the lower width and depth. This is noticeable especially in the low end, where Odessa with a transfer limit of 64 Hertz (Vescovà: 38 Hertz) draws the short straw. For the small volume reserves are around about two decibels higher…
This slightly higher level yield is also on the interaction between of the chassis with an unusual industry complex crossover, which not only revamped tames the woofer, but also in the ultra deep bass, to protect them from unreasonable frequencies. More in the box next door.
Gymnastics father Jahn had a hearing test which had Odessa his true joy: his much-quoted motto “Fresh, pious, cheerful, free” fits the smart small box like the fist on the eye. So pithy and jumping to the Odessa shimmering guitar Fireworks ignited a la Pepe Romeo, as glockenrein clearly she conjured up the voice of Anna Netrebko (“La Traviata”, DG) in the listening room.
This crystal clear and animated rendering of all areas runs like a red thread through the soundstage the Isophon: your ESS faster bass sequences, the extremely accurate fundamental tone and their spatial accuracy dazzled the tester sustainably.
Of course the physics sets limits on such small transducers: the holistic balance and dignity of her bigger sister (as also the Magico or Vienna) reached them only with difficulty. For friends of impulsive precision and figure in a confined space may be however – if it’s not deafening loud must go to – only a few alternatives to the Odessa.
