Music Hall has acquired the reputation is in the past, to provide audiophile sound quality even without blatant waste of money.
- Music Hall A 50.2
- Data sheet
The Music Hall A50 2 while 200 euros more expensive than the Rotel, offers a phono stage, which takes the leash both MM and MC systems but as the only amplifier in the test. Somewhat more effort for Noisy operational amplifier, would have been desirable but – the MC input is good with his meager noise (see measuring laboratory) only as a stopgap measure.
Otherwise please use of materials as well as production quality of the developed in the United States and the Chinese Shenzhen-made amps. The Board layout is clean, the components – about the thick, high-performance transistors by decreased or operational amplifiers by Burr-Brown – have proven themselves in countless good-sounding devices. Impressive processing: a front 12 mm thick aluminium, solid, in the retro-look grip knurled knobs for input selection and volume, in the middle of a large display window. The A50. 2 seems built for eternity. At the back, Music-Hall-chef Roy Hall went conservative at the plant: only four line, a few boxes connectors, tape, Pre-Out and mentioned phono input.
The first sound experiments with the Music Hall were rather disappointing. Connected to the demanding KEF reference 207/2, gave way to the A50. 2 bass pulses out and took refuge in a more Center-weighted gait. With the monitor audio Platinum PL200 played great against it. The basses were heftier, the Middle tone remained fine and clearly, the slight tendency to oversteer, which make up was with the KEF, disappeared.
Also on the compact Cabasse Minorca (AUDIO 4/09, 800 euros) – a more realistic partner as the expensive KEF – he revealed a delicate, mild-mannered vote and played significantly through strong and fine drawing. The wide opening stage was impressive, especially if large orchestra played on. The “suite for the ballet” (Christmas mortuary: Jazz suites), the room became an Orchestra Hall with Cathedral-like dome.
