MB quart in Obrigheim: for many years, great speaker emerged. Especially in the middle and upper class, put the Swabians scale for scale and have a superb reputation thanks to the sophisticated, home-produced low, midrange and tweeters worldwide. But at the end of the 90s it ran not more about MB. American investors went, came itself in economic difficulties, and separated again. But they retained what they considered especially valuable: the mark of MB quart. 2007 stood the Obrigheimer suddenly without money and without a name.
But not without perspective. Managing Director Thomas Sauer found new financial backers and moved many of the staff to the new company German Maestro. And that is the situation today: In the former MB building, former MB employees manufacture best headsets, Car HiFi components and speakers as usual.
As the new Linea S F-one, which is located in the basic version (black structural lacquer) 1400, in the fine gloss version of the test model 1800 euros. The slim Linea housing holds two different volumes: the lower 7-inch woofer is responsible exclusively for bass (up to 120 Hertz) and is supported by bass reflex port. The second 7-incher, the also the MIDs (until 2200 Hertz takes, is working on a smaller, closed housing. It aims to improve the transient response in this particularly important area. The Obrigheimer are especially proud of their tweeter with inverse metal dome that carries the fine-sounding name of “Ultra-Sphere”. Of this form, which dominates only focal, they promise a wider sound radiation and more high-frequency energy in the room.
Could be that they are right. The results of the laboratories show a frequency response even far outside of the axis, (blue line = 30 degrees) is still very linear. Also the efficiency of almost 85 decibels and the lower cut-off frequency of 38 Hz (-6dB) prove that the slender two and a half way construction about the Classifications is located. What also applies to their sonic performance. The reference booklet CD for the high end show 2007 (5/07) is a good test to listen up. When the whistling of Livingston Taylor at the beginning of his “isn’t she lovely?” the chaff separates quickly from the wheat. The Linea mastered this critical hurdle very directly and alive with – at high levels – maybe a little too much pepper. Then added guitar and vocals. The recording space is the guitar in the right place properly lit, is? It was at the Linea. She very meticulously modeled singer and guitar in the room worked out fine the characteristic tone of Taylor’s. That was pretty good.
It was even better when Friedemann’s “Little plucking music”. Wonderfully, as impulsive, as accurately directly and airy the harp strings swung out, simply convincingly, how realistic the large instrument is depicted. The class-leading MAGNAT quantum 705 (3/08) played as a whole but slightly rounder and smoother, which sounded about strings (Haydn, Symphony No. 88) Full-bodied, warmer, ultimately more beautiful.
At the bass beats of “Tuva rap”, however, the Linea was slightly superior to the magnate: the bold had exactly this power and this emphasis which characterized large systems; the comforting vagueness with which representatives often lead to believe “more” this class was completely foreign the Linea.
With a tonally matching amplifier a la Rotel RA 1520 (see Bulletin 9/09) enchants the Linea S F-one with a breathtaking authenticity and really makes you want to listen to music.
