Understand why it is important to have your own yoga mat to practice yoga and learn the differences between the various types of rugs available in the Brazilian market
Article essential to the practice of yoga, “yoga mats”, as they are known, are resistant opposing pressures that occur during a practice of yoga. They also offer more safety to the practitioner to prevent slipping during practice, because they adhere to the floor. If you already practice yoga, did you ever stop to think about the importance of having your own rug? Or, if you’re going to start practicing, that’s the time to learn more about the subject.
Typically, the measure of carpets is around 180 cm x 60 cm (ideally is proportional to the size of the practitioner), and the thickness can vary from 3 to 8 mm, being most recommended 5 intermediaries because they are more resistant to pressures facing the body exercises during practice, but they’re not as firm as the 8 mm thick. A good yoga mat is one that prevents the practitioner from slipping and is firm enough to support (feet, hands, knees) did not sink and the student can maintain balance during practice.
An important point is that the yoga mat is a personal object, and the ideal is that each have your. It is where you will sit, lie down or lean to practice asanas (or poses) of yoga. Depending on the practice and yoga style chosen, there is a smaller or larger requirement of the body, but the body will sweat and the sweat will fall in the yoga mat, so it’s not very hygienic share the yoga mats with other people.
Difference between the types of yoga mat
The yoga mats can be made of various materials from commit4fitness, but the most common are the EVA, PVC, rubber or TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer). The main point that must be noted when purchasing your carpet must be adherence to the ground, but there are other points to which the yogi (ni) should stay tuned. In General, practitioners of yoga have some principles that guide your lifestyle, among them is the sustainability, or “green lifestyle”. Among the materials, the last two options are more sustainable: rubber and TPE.
In the case of PVC, still widely used in Brazil, besides the material not be recyclable or biodegradable, carpets have póros more open, which makes hygiene-take longer to dry when wet (by sweat or washing), which can increase the presence of fungi and bacteria. By comparison, the TPE gains triggered on the criterion “eco-friendly”, as it is recyclable and biodegradable. Ilhabela Yoga rugs, for example, are all made with ecological material, TPE, PVC-free and other substances which leave residues in the environment.
In terms of market, Brazil does not have many national brands of products for yoga, which often leads the practitioners to seek products abroad. This happens, generally, because there are some brands that are already known internationally for being “green companies” using ecological materials and, with that, I have more credibility in the market. However, in terms of prices, are still expensive products to a large number of Brazilians. Nowadays, there are already national options with values accessible to the Australian public, as is the case with the line of products and accessories of Ilhabela Yoga equivalent to foreign products in quality and sustainability. Ilhabela Yoga brand products can be found in the online store:our site.
How to clean your yoga mat
If your carpet is in PVC,it is necessary to take some extra care when cleaning on the pores of the material. It is not recommended to clean with plenty of water, and with a damp cloth and alcohol.Clean with SOAP or any other type of product that can slide, the carpet will be slippery for a long time (since the chemical penetrates the PVC).Already the TPE can be cleaned with water and/or alcohol, because it dries faster. TPE carpets can be washed even in the shower, enjoying the bath after a yoga class. Then you just hang and will be dry the next day. This option is not recommended for PVC rugs.
These differences make the TPE the best choice when it comes to yoga mat, because it is more healthy for the practitioner and more sustainable for the environment. In addition to being less vulnerable to fungi and bacteria, TPE rugs also does not release toxic fumes, which could be inhaled during the practice of yoga, when breathing is deep. It is possible, still, that along with the alcohol, at the time of hygiene are used a few drops of essential oil to make the carpet smell nicer. And of course, clean your feet before you start to practice or put a towel on top of anti-slip yoga mat is also recommended, as it allows to increase the intervals between cleanings.
