EQUIS
The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)
deals with accreditation questions at European level. It
awards the European Quality Improvement System in short:
the EQUIS accreditation.
Compared to the United States, the strength of
European MBA training lies in the variety of training
systems. However, because of the heterogeneous training
systems, it is difficult to define uniform standards.
The EFMD has more than 760 members in over 80
countries, the largest association of business schools,
universities and businesses in Europe. Building on the
experience of the existing national accreditation
systems in Europe, she developed quality standards as
part of the EQUIS initiative. On this basis, it
accredits educational institutions. Management schools
that meet the EQUIS criteria receive the European
Quality Label. Over 100 business schools are currently
EQUIS-accredited, including the WHU Otto Beisheim School
of Management and the University of Mannheim as German
business schools. EQUIS focuses on European schools. But
schools have also been accredited worldwide - among
others in Canada, Australia, Asia, Latin America and
South Africa.
Other national accreditors are the Association of
MBAs ( AMBA ) in Great Britain , the Foundation for
International Business Administration Accreditation ( FIBAA ) in
German-speaking countries, the Conférence des Grandes
Ecoles (CGE) in France and the Associazione per la
Formazione alla Direzione in Italy Aziendale (ASFOR).
FIBAA
The Foundation for International Business
Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) awards quality
seals to educational programs and training providers in
the fields of higher education and further
education. Your goal is to ensure quality and
transparency in education and science.
In autumn 1994, the leading associations of the
Swiss, Austrian and German economy founded FIBAA as an
internationally oriented foundation. FIBAA focuses on
economic, legal and social science courses and advanced
training courses.
The range of services offered by FIBAA ranges from
the accreditation of study programs to institutional
accreditations to the certification of further education
offers and further education providers at an academic
level. For its experts, FIBAA attaches great importance
to a balanced relationship between science and practice:
its experts and the members of the decision-making
bodies consist of university and business
representatives as well as students.
In Germany, FIBAA is authorized to award the seal of
the German Accreditation Council to state and private
state-recognized universities for program and system
accreditation.
In the case of system accreditation, the quality
management of a university is checked. At the same time,
FIBAA awards its own seal of quality to German and
foreign universities based on internationally recognized
quality standards. FIBAA is also recognized as an
accreditation agency in other countries.
Further information as well as the programs and
universities currently accredited by FIBAA as well as
certified further education offers and providers can be
found at www.fibaa.org.
