Get started after your studies - that's what most MBA participants want. It is therefore particularly important that they receive optimal support from their business school on career issues.

According to the GMAC Global Management Education Graduate Survey 2013, career services rank second in the top 5 successful job search strategies. A total of 58 percent of European MBA graduates got their first job after completing their career service. An MBA study has determined which recruitment offers are most frequently used by Career Services.

Recruitment offer %
Organization of campus visits by companies 65
Establishing contacts with alumni 63
Coaching seminars 60
Direct job placement 25th
Mediation of internships 25th
Yearbooks 23
Creation of an applicant database 18th
Assistance in setting up online profiles 5

As an interface between business school and business, Career Services have good contacts to companies. For this reason, company visits and contact fairs on campus are among the most frequently offered recruitment offers in Europe (65 percent). Companies like to use this opportunity when looking for new talent, because it offers the opportunity to present the tasks and the culture of the company to the students and to talk to high potentials.

Most career services have their own alumni network. A full 63 percent rely on the support of their former graduates for recruitment. MBA students benefit from these networks in two ways. In addition to the opportunity to exchange experiences, membership also offers the opportunity to establish contacts with the economy and to keep up to date with new developments in research.

It is not only specialist knowledge and a final grade that are important for a successful career start. Soft skills are at least as important. 60 percent of Career Services therefore offer coaching seminars on various topics. MBA students can be trained in leadership or presentation skills, job etiquette or time management. Training on applications, interviews and assessment centers is also often offered.

Many universities use their contacts to the economy to bring supply and demand directly together. After all, 25 percent of Career Services offer direct job placement. As job brokers, they look for potential employees for companies among their graduates. As a result, they usually have a good overview of the job market and can propose suitable positions to graduates.
