MBA in Engineering Management
An MBA in engineering (management) is a technically
oriented business master. If you are interested in this
academic further education and / or are looking for
suitable MBA courses for engineers, you have come to the
right place. We have compiled all the information below:
Experience reports from graduates, course content, costs
and requirements, all courses and much more.
Engineering management - this is a subject at
the interface between business administration and
(business) engineering. The MBA is primarily designed
for engineers and scientists who already have a certain
technical understanding and now want to supplement this
with business knowledge.
Wichtig zu wissen: The differences between the study
content of the various MBAs are sometimes very
clear. You should therefore definitely inform yourself
in detail about the study conditions etc., because
engineering management is not just engineering
management. Some universities interpret the MBA more
economically, others, however, more technically or
engineering.
The MBA Engineering Management focuses on business
administration, but usually supplements it with
technical subjects. For example, the "Master of Business
Administration & Engineering" at Munich University of
Applied Sciences includes lectures on digital factory
planning or automation technology in addition to
subjects such as controlling and finance management. In
distance learning at Wilhelm Büchner University you will
find quality management and project management as well
as strategic innovation and technology management in the
course.
Forms of study
All engineering management MBAs are designed to be
part-time. The Wilhelm Büchner University offers the
course as a distance learning course, at the Graduate
School Rhein-Neckar the lectures take place part-time on
Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
At Munich University of Applied Sciences, however,
lectures are attended three days a week (two evenings at
5:45 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 3:45
p.m.). Individual courses are held in block events at
the weekend.
Requirements
In contrast, the study requirements are generally
uniform. The MBA in Engineering Management is aimed
primarily at graduates in the field of computer science
or engineering / natural sciences.
In addition, one to two years of professional
experience are required. In some cases,
an admission test is carried out and has to be passed.
Costs
The costs for this MBA course are very different:
- Munich University of Applied Sciences : 6,900
euros
- TH Mittelhessen : 9,200 euros
- Graduate School Rhein-Neckar : 20,900 euros
To estimate: The graduate school is on average with
the tuition fees, the MBA of the Munich University of
Applied Sciences is very cheap due to the state
sponsorship.
In addition there are costs for travel, accommodation
or possibly the stimuli to the foreign module. After
all, you can deduct all costs for the MBA from tax.
Alternative: Master of Business Engineering
At some universities there are courses that combine
business administration and engineering under the name
of Master of Business Engineering. The completion of
these courses is not a classic MBA, but an MBE, M. Sc.,
M. Eng. or a combination of MBA and M. Eng. be.
Alternatives to this MBA
There are various options for engineers to continue
their education with the Master of Business
Administration. In principle, almost all study programs
are open. Well, an MBA in health management or sports
management rarely makes sense for an engineer, but
from marketing to general
management to entrepreneurship, there are numerous
courses of study that are suitable as career support.
A generalist MBA is quite typical, that is, without
industry specialization. Here engineers meet doctors and
scientists and get a broad view of the bigger picture.
