MBA in International Management

The world of work is becoming increasingly international in the course of globalization; For a long time, companies no longer act only within national borders, but far beyond. Accordingly, they need managers who are familiar with all the challenges and problems of cross-border business activities - an MBA International Management could be the right qualification. We have all serious information, study programs and business schools and also experience reports from graduates.

International management is - to put it simply and quite logically - the management of international companies. First and foremost, this means that an international manager is responsible for all activities of a company that take place outside his home country. His areas of responsibility include branches and employees abroad, but also cooperation with other foreign companies.

Managers working in the international arena therefore have to bring more than just business expertise; they must be familiar with foreign markets, be familiar with legal regulations and restrictions, and be familiar with foreign customs and practices and adapt accordingly. The necessary know-how and specialist knowledge can be acquired, for example, in an appropriately specialized MBA course in international management.

In order to optimally prepare the students for their task, the corresponding MBA courses in international management are very broad. In terms of content, they deal primarily with elements of business administration, economics, marketing, business law, international economics and corporate management. Accordingly, the timetable includes modules such as International Business, Business Process Management, International Business Communication, Business Law, International Value Chains, Financial Resources, Intercultural Management and Marketing Management. Depending on the degree program, there is also the option of choosing certain focal points and thus concentrating on a specific sub-area.

In order for the students to get to know international management not only in theory, but also to gain practical experience, many MBA courses include a planned stay abroad, an internship or a comparable project. The international orientation of the MBA courses can also be seen from the fact that many of them are partially or even entirely in English.

In addition to the "classic" International Management MBA courses, there are many more that connect International Management with another subject area and thus specialize accordingly. These include, for example, "International Management and Intercultural Communication", "International Tourism Management", "International Health Care Management" or "Business Administration with a focus on International Management". If you are already certain that you would like to orientate yourself within a certain specialist area within International Management, then it can make sense to enroll in a correspondingly specialized MBA course.

Study forms and course

The MBA International Management can be acquired in different study variants (part-time or full-time). Depending on which model you choose, the standard period of study varies, of course, which is between one and three years.

In the part-time variant, the MBA is completed in parallel to a job. However, there are two different models here: distance learning and evening or weekend studies. In distance learning, students receive the necessary documents so that they can acquire the documents in flexible time and space in self-study. In the evening or weekend studies, however, the students take part in face-to-face events that are organized in such a way that they can be reconciled with a job. For example, lessons take place several times a week in the evenings or are held as a block event on weekends.

The only thing that is common to all MBA study models is the fact that they are completed in the last semester with the completion of the master thesis. Depending on the university, students also have to complete an accompanying colloquium.

In order to take part in the MBA International Management, you must have a first university degree, such as a bachelor's or diploma and professional experience; usually one to two years are required here. Since many of the MBA courses in the field of international management are partly or completely held in English, good to very good language skills are also a requirement.

A Master of Business Administration is associated with some costs; In addition to the tuition fees, there are often additional payments. Especially in the subject area discussed here, at least one stay abroad is usually integrated in the curriculum. Achtung: The costs incurred are mostly only partially covered in the tuition fees. You have to pay for flights, accommodation and meals out of your own pocket.

Examples of tuition fees:

  • Reutlingen University / ESB Business School: 6,900 - 9,500 euros
  • Cologne Business School: 22,740 euros
  • Bremen University of Applied Sciences: 12,500 euros
  • IUBH: 13,750 - 17,250 euros
  • Graduate School Rhein-Neckar: 17,400 euros
  • Munich Business School: 27,230 euros

Does it have to be the specialization in international management? If not, then the "typical" MBA General Management would be a good alternative. In the course of the course, there is no specialization here, but all areas of business administration are taught. Those who do not want to qualify too "sharply" will find an "All-round MBA" in General Management.
