MBA INTERVIEW WITH FELIX AHLERS, FROSTA: "LEARNING EFFECT WAS GREAT"
Felix Ahlers (44), CEO of Frosta, decided to continue
his studies after studying economics and some years of
professional experience. He completed the MBA at the
Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Chicago.
Firefighter, locomotive driver or doctor,
these are the dream jobs of many children: What did you
want to be when you were young?
Cook.
Which decision did you make the most for your
career?
It helped me to live in four different countries
(France, Italy, Poland, USA) and to get to know the
mentalities. This makes you more flexible and helps to
understand different attitudes.
Why did you choose to do an MBA in the United
States?
Because I was particularly interested in the topic of
marketing and I knew that the Americans are leaders in
this area. Since I studied economics, I was particularly
interested in a practical MBA course.
Have there been moments when you have had doubts
about this decision?
No, it was always fun and the learning effect was big
enough.
How do you deal with setbacks?
I try to learn from it. And then I prefer to think
quickly of the many positive things.
The MBA is one of the most expensive training
courses. Did this investment pay off?
Definitely in the long run.
What have you learned from your MBA for life and
not for your job?
I particularly enjoyed life in the USA. Even if I don't
like everything there, many things are completely
different and better than in Europe. You are more
impartial and give young people a lot of responsibility
early on.
Which role models are you based on?
There are too many of them, and they change over time.
When do you advise academics to get an MBA?
First: if you are convinced that you will learn
something not only professionally but also
personally. Second: if you already have at least four
years of professional experience. Third, only if you are
accepted into a really good school.
