Executive MBA (EMBA) vs. MBA
Those who are interested in an MBA degree and are in
professional life often have the choice between
Executive MBA (EMBA) and "normal" MBA programs. Is there
a difference? And which choice is better?
The "Executive Floor" is the board or executive
floor. Therefore, you can quickly explain what the big
difference between executive and "normal" MBA courses is
- namely the target group. In addition, there are not so
big differences. We will try to help you find the right
program below.
The EMBA programs are aimed at those wishing to
undertake further training with management, personnel
and / or budget responsibility. The providers want to
ensure an environment in which the participants meet on
an equal footing and are, so to speak, "among
themselves".
There are also MBA programs that value several years
of professional experience. Then there is the difference
between EMBA and MBA not quite as big anymore. However,
this is not the rule and it is not specifically asked
about management / budget responsibility.
Since an MBA degree is only considered for most
working people after a few years in professional life,
the information on work experience, for example, is
sometimes not that different compared to Executive
MBAs. The bigger difference, as mentioned, is in the
career level.
Another difference: EMBA = always part-time
Another difference EMBA vs. MBA is in the study
organization. Executive MBA programs are always
part-time, whereas other MBAs sometimes have to or can
be completed full-time. However, there are also numerous
“normal” MBAs throughout Germany that are offered as
part-time or distance learning courses, so this
criterion is negligible.
Conclusion: prefer EMBA or MBA?
For a large group of those interested in MBA, the
EMBA is out of the question because they have not yet
reached the required number of years of work or the
corresponding level on the career ladder.
However, those who meet the special requirements are
spoiled for choice. The advantage of the executive
programs is clearly the structure of the
participants. This is where executives meet on an equal
footing , which has a positive effect on networking and
content-related discussions, which are filled with much
more professional experience. However, most of the EMBA
courses are designed in a generalized manner and do not
specialize in a specific field. So, for example , if you
want to do a special logistics MBA, you "only" have the
choice between normal MBAs.
However, there is no difference between the EMBA and
the MBA for the resume and career opportunities for an
application.
To put it simply, one can say: "Management positions
that already hold EMBA candidates want to achieve MBA
students."
