What is an MBA Degree
If you Google for "MBA studies", you will encounter
buzzwords such as "career jump", "salary increase" or
"management studies" everywhere. But what is this Master
of Business Administration (MBA) for a degree?
The abbreviation MBA stands for "Master of Business
Administration".
The MBA is a course of study that can be studied
after a first academic degree (e.g. Bachelor or
Diploma). In addition, it is designed in a “generalist”
way, which means that the course does not convey
specialized knowledge for a specialist area, but the
entire range of business administration. However, this
generalist approach tends to decline and specialized
MBAs such as logistics or health management come onto
the market. In addition, it is now possible to
study with sufficient work experience even without a
first degree.
Who is an MBA for?
The Master of Business Administration is primarily
those have already had at least one year in their
professional life after completing their diploma,
master's, bachelor's or master's degree.
It was originally intended for those who have
completed a non-business degree (e.g. biology,
mechanical engineering, medicine, law) and would like to
make up for a lack of business administration
skills. Today, however, business administration
graduates also do a Business Administration Master to
deepen their knowledge again.
How is the MBA program structured?
There is no uniform study structure for the Master of
Business Administration. When it comes to the structure
of your studies, the main thing is the time model:
- Part-time face-to-face study (evening or weekend
study)
- Distance learning
- Full-time study
- Executive MBA (special form of part-time
attendance study, only aimed at people with
managerial responsibility)
In principle, it can be said that an MBA course in
Germany takes an average of 21 months. This is due to
the wide spread of part-time courses. Anyone who decides
to pursue a full-time MBA degree will have their degree
more quickly in their pocket, while distance learning
can take up to four years.
How can you find reputable universities / providers?
For example in our database. There you will find
numerous universities with different MBA programs. We
have only accepted certified providers with reputable
study programs.
Otherwise you should pay attention to the
accreditation. Reliable universities have had their
study programs examined by a so-called accreditation
agency (e.g. FIBAA, EQUIS, AMBA) or have been approved.
Is the MBA degree really so beneficial to your
career?
In order to be able to answer this question halfway
objectively, we interviewed more than 150 randomly
selected graduates from various universities. The vast
majority are very happy with the degree, but there are
also people who have not met their expectations:
Kai, MBA Real Estate
This investment in
education was absolutely worth it. Studying helped me
particularly in an international work environment. The
contacts I made during my stays abroad were and are very
valuable for my everyday work.
Christian, MBA Health Economics
The MBA was worth it, as
I now enjoy a high reputation at the executive level /
in administration. It was not worth it to the extent
that the study costs were not yet paid out.
Christian, MBA General Management
With my MBA, I was able
to change the industry, hold numerous exciting positions
and almost double my salary over time.
Martina, MBA Health Care Management
The MBA paid off for me
because it started a change of job as planned. With the
new qualification, I was well prepared and interesting
on the job market. I couldn't have taken on the two jobs
that came without the MBA. Today I am very satisfied
with the change of branch and I especially don't want to
miss the contacts that the MBA gave me.
In the numerous testimonials it is striking that only
very few graduates mention a direct effect on the
salary. Rather, they rave about the networking
effects that cause job changes over the years and thus
also increases in salaries.
