Various MBA Entrance Examinations

A master's degree in Business Administration, commonly referred to as an MBA can be an ideal option for people who want to advance their career in management. Admissions requirements vary greatly depending on the school, but applicants are generally required to take an exam before applying. There are several different types of MBA entrance examinations that schools can require applicants to take; in some cases, you might need two competitions.

GMAT

GMAT

Based on topschoolsintheusa, Graduate Management Admissions Test, or GMAT, is the most commonly recognized MBA entrance exam that is designed specifically for students who plan to attend business school. This exam assesses a person's mathematical, verbal, and analytical writing skills. Score requirements vary according to the school, and are often dependent on the competitiveness of the program. GMAT must be taken within five years after the date of the application.

GRE

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, is accepted as a MBA entrance exam of some schools in lieu of GMAT. The test assesses a person's quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, analytical writing and critical thinking. Although the exam is intended for graduate school applicants, these skills also considered essential for prospective business school students. Score requirements vary by school and may depend on how competitive the program is. Like the GMAT, the GRE must be taken within five years after the date of the application.

TOEFL

TOEFL

Test of English as a foreign language, or TOEFL, may be required in addition to the GMAT or the GRE exam. The test is usually only required of applicants who do not speak English as their first language; It may not be required of persons who have obtained a degree from a school where English was the primary language of instruction. MBA candidates who speak a foreign language to determine if they are required to take the TOEFL.

Considerations

It is important to note that taking one of the required MBA entrance examinations does not guarantee admission to a degree program. An applicant's grade point average (GPA), letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and a resume outlines work experience is also taken into consideration during the application process. An interview is also generally required. As MBA programs tend to be competitive and limited spaces may be available that meets the minimum score requirements for entrance examinations will not secure a spot in a program.
