The ESADE Business School was founded in Barcelona in 1958 by business companies and Jesuits. The school is EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB accredited.
FLEXIBLE FORMAT
The ESADE full-time MBA is flexible and can be completed in twelve, 15 or 18 months. Up to the third term, students can choose the final duration of the study. The required credit points are the same for all three variants. Internships and exchange programs are possible for the 15- and 18-month programs.
BILINGUAL AND INTERNATIONAL
The Executive MBA (full or part-time) can be completed in 16 months in Barcelona and Madrid. The program can be taken in English or bilingual (three quarters in Spanish). The Global EMBA and other programs take place in New York, Washington DC, Barcelona, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Shanghai and Bangalore, among others.
MANY MODULES
The core curriculum of the full-time MBA includes an “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” module that prepares the participants for independence and includes the development of a business plan. The Business Simulation module offers the possibility of simulating the consequences of entrepreneurial decisions in marketing, sales, finance and production.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MBA EDUCATION
An MBA course can be quite expensive, especially if you are studying at a university abroad. Scholarships can help you with funding. We present the most important ones.
The business schools usually have an Office of Financial Aid, which provides information about funding opportunities and grants. Most government grants, such as loans, grants or grants, are often only given to local students. Some schools also award grants if they want to address a particular type of applicant. Similar to study places, some scholarships are awarded on a “first come, first served” basis. An early application can – in the truest sense of the word – pay off.
Since there is no comprehensive list of scholarships, it is worth asking the universities directly. Private scholarships are particularly common in the United States. They are awarded as scholarships or fellowships and offer the greatest opportunities for financial support. However, the number of students funded is often limited and the funding often only covers the tuition fees. A distinction is made between “need-based” and “merit-based” grants.
At some US business schools, the study place automatically applies for a performance-based scholarship. The academic and professional achievements to date determine whether the funding is awarded. Those who have not qualified should look for loan programs that national and local US banks sometimes offer to MBA students at certain universities. Some of them are cheaper than other loans.
DAAD
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) organizes, among other things, the exchange of students and scientists from home and abroad and carries out many international programs and projects. Information is also available from the international academic offices and international offices of German universities. The International Academic Offices also advise specifically on the DAAD programs. In the scholarship database of the DAAD, there are application forms and documents that can be filled in or download online.
For applications for an MBA course there is the DAAD program “Annual Scholarships for Supplementary, Advanced and Advanced Studies as well as Research Stays” for graduates. Requirements and application documents can be found on the DAAD website. The application deadlines vary depending on the target country. Usually a selection with a personal introduction takes place in front of a commission. Scholarships for graduates vary from country to country, and in some cases they vary depending on the program. The following monthly rates apply, which are adjusted regularly:
- Italy and Great Britain: 675 euros
- Spain and Finland: 700 euros
- Sweden and Switzerland: 775 euros
- USA: 925 euros
- Japan: 1,150 euros
If necessary, the amounts are adjusted to the changed cost of living in the respective countries. The DAAD decides on a grant for tuition fees in the host country. Maximum limits are set depending on the target country.
HANIEL FOUNDATION
Together with the Haniel Foundation, the German National Academic Foundation offers a scholarship program. Each year, eight students can complete a business-related, at least two-semester postgraduate study abroad with an internationally recognized degree. An internship lasting several months is part of the course. The program is aimed at students of all subjects with an interest in economic issues. Applicants should have an excellent university degree (at least bachelor, lawyers at least “fully satisfactory”) and should be younger than 35 years.
The monthly full scholarship is 1,200 euros in most European countries, 1,500 euros in Great Britain, the USA and most non-European countries. The scholarship is granted for a maximum of 22 months (including internship).
Additional Services:
- Payment of tuition fees for up to two years (up to 14,000 euros in the USA, up to 12,000 euros in the UK and up to 10,000 euros annually in other countries)
- Flat-rate travel allowance of 1,000 euros
- Entry fee of 500 euros for first purchases on site
Application forms can on the website of the Academic Foundation for download. The application period ends on November 15th. The course begins in the autumn of the following year.
ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Rotary International is a nonprofit, global organization. The purpose of the Rotary Scholarship Program goes beyond studying. It is important that the study abroad for Central and Eastern European students brings personal and academic enrichment, but it is also about international encounters and getting to know other cultures. Each scholarship holder is an “ambassador” for their country and is closely connected to the local Rotary Club of their place of study. To date, more than 40,000 fellows have been funded worldwide.
Since 2013, the scholarships have no longer been awarded centrally through the Rotary Foundation. Rotary clubs and districts have the opportunity to use district or global grant funding more flexibly for scholarships. The Rotary Clubs provide information on application and selection procedures on site.
ERP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The ERP Scholarship Program (European Recovery Program) from the Studienstiftung and the Federal Ministry of Economics supports one to two-year study and research stays at top American universities. The program is aimed at excellent graduates in all subjects (with the exception of film, music, art and design) and supports study visits to acquire an American master’s degree or PhD. Research projects in dissertation projects can also be funded.
The aim of the ERP program is to strengthen transatlantic understanding and to promote and network highly qualified graduates who want to work in the public sector. Up to 20 scholarships are awarded annually. The program has been financed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs since the mid-1990s as the administrator of the ERP special fund.
Prerequisite for the application:
- at least bachelor’s degree
- Applicants younger than 35 years
- excellent degree, at least “fully satisfactory” for lawyers
- Social Commitment
The grant is earmarked for $ 1,900 per month and a travel allowance of $ 1,000. Tuition fees are limited to $ 25,000 per academic year. An entry fee of $ 500 should cover the first purchases on site. The application runs through the German National Academic Foundation, application deadline is October 15th.
ISEP EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) is a network of 300 institutions and universities in more than 40 countries. In Germany, the universities of Bielefeld, Braunschweig, Dortmund, Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, Gießen, Hanover, Marburg and Trier belong to the international ISEP network. The program is based on a 1: 1 exchange between the universities. The International Office provides information. If you want to participate, you have to be enrolled at an “ISEP University”.
For the exchange, the German participants deposit the costs for living (dorm or host family), cafeteria meals and tuition fees at the home university. The sum depends on the prices in the home country. A placement fee is transferred to ISEP.
For bachelor’s degrees, formal qualifications should be sufficient. Admission to a master’s program cannot be confirmed in advance, as this is part of the admission negotiations by ISEP. Information on participating in MBA programs and application deadlines can be found on the ISE program website or from an ISEP coordinator at the university. Interested parties should start preparing for the application one year before the study visit.
Internships, voluntary work or summer courses are also offered. Interested parties should note that universities have different requirements and offer different programs.
FULBRIGHT ANNUAL GRANTS
With annual grants, the Fulbright Commission supports study visits aimed at deepening technical studies at universities in the United States. The grant is up to $ 3,850 a month to fund living expenses and tuition at the host university.
There is a travel allowance and a flat-rate allowance, e.g. for a health certificate or language tests. The application must be submitted one year before the American academic year. Information is available from the university’s international office, the Fulbright liaison officer or the association of former scholars.
FOREIGN STUDENT LOANS
Whether a MBA course spent entirely abroad can be funded with Bafög depends on various factors. In any case, the prerequisite for the Auslandsbafög is that applicants have only completed the bachelor’s degree and that the MBA is being completed in the EU or Switzerland. The flyer “Das neue Bafög” can be downloaded from the website of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Applications should be submitted at least six months before the planned start of the course. Depending on the target country, different foreign promotion agencies are responsible. A separate proof of sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction and national language, which was previously part of the application, is no longer required.
If you are interested in financing and scholarships as an MBA prospect, the MBA will not become a “Master with considerable expenditure”, but rather a worthwhile investment. You just have to start early enough.
