With the release of the document editing service Google Docs, also came included collaboration feature, imported directly from Writely, a company that Google bought. Different users of the service could access a document and make changes to any part of it. Over the years, this feature has been refined and also won a confused feedback system. Today this system has been improved and is finally decent enough.
In the previous version of Google Docs had a record of who had made what changes on each document, but that was not extended to comments. With the new update implemented today, this feedback system has to display the name of who made the comment with the right date and time. Another interesting implementation is the ability to close a discussion, removing the review of the document but keeping the entire record in the discussions tab near the button to save.
Additionally you can receive notifications via email when new comments have been made. In fact, the notifications are enabled by default for any of the employees of the document, which can fill a little bag who does not like to leave your inbox clean, but you can disable them with a few clicks. And needless to open Google Docs to replicate the new comments: just answer the notification e-mail that automatically a new comment is inserted in the form of an answer.
Google Docs was already quite strong in the collaborative element and got better with the new comments registry, but not all flowers. Google warns that only text documents that are created from today will have the new features. There is no predicting when or if this new comments scheme will appear in spreadsheets or presentations.
