MBA in Compliance

Compliance is more than setting rules and monitoring compliance. If you are interested in this career-oriented professional field and would like to further qualify, a Compliance MBA may be the right solution. We have an overview with all information, from the types of study (part-time, distance learning, etc.) to reports from graduates.

What is compliance? We cannot describe it better than this video. You already know that? Then scroll straight on – you will find all information about the MBA course below.

Zusammengefasst: With a view to possible claims for damages, regulatory or criminal sanctions and damage to reputation, but also for the establishment of more integrated corporate structures, it is important to use the compliance function to prevent legal violations of the company through effective measures and guidelines. However, compliance is not just prevention, but with a functioning compliance management system it is also a strategic advantage in competition and part of the identification of employees with the philosophy of a company and thus an expression of modern management responsibility.

Fanned by scandals at large corporations, the topic has become increasingly important in recent years and the demand for specialists has increased accordingly. With a Compliance MBA you can continue to qualify.

Compliance officers are familiar with the relevant national and international laws – from data protection to Basel II to antitrust regulations. They develop, optimize and implement guidelines, motivate employees to comply with them and sanction misconduct. Legal and HR management know-how is imparted in a Compliance MBA.

To date, there are only a few MBA courses in this area in Germany: The Compliance MBA of the School of Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC) at Steinbeis University Berlin, for example, is designed to be part-time. The teaching content is taught in 75 attendance days (65 attendance days in Berlin and five days in Lucerne and Brussels) in four semesters (i.e. two years). The MBA from the HTWG Konstanz (in conjunction with the Ingolstadt University of Technology ) is even more international, with several stays in Beijing integrated.

Both of the above-mentioned MBA courses impart basic business administration know-how, such as controlling, financing or project management. In the further course of the study, the specialization in the areas of good corporate management and security, risk management, fraud prevention and business ethics takes place.

The admission requirements differ from university to university: At the GRC of Steinbeis University Berlin, for example, a completed university degree with 210 credit points and at least two years of relevant professional experience as well as very good to good knowledge of the German and English language are required. The HTWG Konstanz also requires two letters of recommendation and an essay. The best way to find out the exact admission requirements is to contact the university’s student advisory service.

Compliance MBA courses are usually not cheap at around 20,000 to 30,000 euros. There are also travel and accommodation costs. After all, you can deduct part of the cost of the MBA from tax.

An alternative to these specialized programs is a General Management MBA. Although the area of compliance is not dealt with individually here, the basic business management knowledge is conveyed more intensively.
