The City: I don’t think I need to say much about San Diego. You study in paradise, which sometimes makes it difficult to concentrate on your studies. Overall, I was surprised that the city is so clearly laid out. You can get anywhere you want to go relatively quickly by car. Public transportation, on the other hand, is available, but takes a long time and is almost impossible, especially at night. See liuxers for 5 tips to adapt when studying in London.
The San Diego State campus is truly beautiful. I really enjoyed the international atmosphere. In terms of academic level, however, San Diego State cannot be compared to German universities. Overall, I had the feeling that the teaching was much more practice-oriented. The material was very easy for me to understand. Anyone who goes abroad to “proceed academically” should therefore rather go to a private one. Another tip: Be careful not to be isolated as a foreigner! Talk to fellow students, ask questions, get tips! The teachers are all very nice and helpful.
I would say that living in San Diego can get very expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s entirely up to you: I didn’t have a car, for example, which saved me a lot of money, but sometimes limited me (I lived in the college area and had a bike). In general, of course, you want to party, eat out, go on excursions, so it’s very good to have more money on the high side.
My overall impression:
San Diego was the best time of my life. Everything just fitted perfectly to the point. It’s just a shame that the semester went by so quickly. I can only recommend the San Diego State to everyone!
