Someone has defined 2010 as the year of the tablets, as they define 2009 as the year of the netbooks. And judging by the excitement of what is going to happen next Wednesday 27 and devices that have already appeared timid in the market as the Archos 9, reviewed in Engadget, so seems it.
And a tablet or as we say here tablet, what is? Well, we will accept as such a computer with touch screen, no keyboard, with operating system designed for use with fingers, WiFi connectivity, and (ahem), 3G connectivity.
3G connectivity? So far has not spread much the practice of integrated 3G modem used only for data mobility teams. Only such have seen it in very exclusive equipment such as the Sony Vaio P trusting the majority makers in not assuming that cost and that the user already would be with a “skewer” USB, forgotten already primitive PCMCIA cards with which many test for the first time navigation in mobility.
The USB modems they have evolved quite since the first SOAP dishes and now we already have enough “stylish” and small designs. However remain an addition to our team, that one day just “engaging” with something, and that also require installation of software that has come a long way but it is not always easy. And obviously the connection restricted to a single team.
We don’t know if the iLoQueSea (Apple Tablet) will include 3 G or not integrated and in that base many purchasing options since 3 G would mean agreements with operators that would make the team even at the expense of the relevant sentence (sorry, permanence) more affordable.
We would instead be in them, a new line of data with a new permanence and only for a team. Well, we have a problem, let us suppose that we have laptop, an iPod Touch (or any other MP3 with WiFi), a Smartphone with WiFi but for which we already have a not-exactly-limited data rate. Or that we travel as a couple, with family, with friends. And no, there is no so many public WiFi networks as it seems and less free.
We then have a party for operators, a line of data by computer… And if we share them? We are talking about in the summer in Xatakamovil MIFI Movistar. A modem with which we can share the 3 G up to five WiFi equipment whether computers, phones or game consoles.
Perhaps the tablet with 3G will be expensive, does not want us to bind us with an operator other than our, or perhaps there is a version with only the cheapest WiFi and that we can connect with our MiFi.
Provide direct experience can comment that since December, coinciding with the new policy of Vodafone delete the speed descents after data in its 3G rates capped I’m user of one of their modems MiFi. In addition to these Vodafone has also bases WiFi They allow us to convert our USB modem in a MiFi, since then the options are various.
Certainly our experience with 3G has improved and now it pays for itself with applications that provide connection flexibility for me unknown until now. From the most obvious to stay at a hotel and browse every traveller with your laptop to become the Christmas travel in a car with WiFi that thanked the passengers in the back seat with their iPod Touch car.
We hope then to 27, but let’s not forget that a tablet without a connection in every place and time will be less Tablet…
