According to top-medical-schools, Hamilton County is located in the northern region of New York State and is part of the Adirondack Park. It was established in 1816 from part of Montgomery County and named after Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury. The county covers an area of 1,819 square miles and is home to a population of nearly 5,000 people. The first inhabitants of Hamilton County were Native Americans who settled in the area thousands of years ago. In 1609, explorer Samuel de Champlain was one of the first Europeans to visit this area and he named it “Adirondacks” which means “bark eaters” in reference to the Iroquois tribes who lived there at that time. During the Revolutionary War, many battles were fought on Hamilton County soil as British troops attempted to gain control over this strategic location. In 1812 construction began on what would become today’s Raquette Lake Railroad; it was America’s first mountain railway and helped bring increased economic growth to Hamilton County. This railroad also made it easier for tourists to reach this area, resulting in a significant boost in tourism during the 19th century. As a result, many hotels and other accommodations were built throughout Hamilton County which further contributed to its economic development. The 20th century saw continued growth for Hamilton County as more people moved into this rural area seeking a slower pace of life away from large cities. The county also experienced an influx of new industries such as paper mills, logging operations, hydroelectric plants and more which helped create jobs for local residents and further diversify its economy. Today, Hamilton County remains a popular tourist destination thanks to its abundant natural beauty including mountains, forests, lakes and rivers; all surrounded by picturesque villages with unique shops and restaurants that draw visitors from near and far every year. The county has also become known for its excellent skiing conditions during winter months which attract skiers from all over New England each season.
