The Toxoplasmosis is caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, and can be acquired by ingestion of food and / or contaminated, from undercooked or raw meat, especially pork. Most women develop immunity to toxoplasmosis throughout their lives. Toxoplasmosis is very dangerous for pregnant women because it can be transmitted from the mother to the fetus and can cause brain damage (hydrocephalus, microcephaly, cerebral calcifications and mental retardation) and ocular (blindness).
