Zell am See, Austria

Zell am See, Austria

Posted on November 25, 2022November 27, 2022 by top-mba-universities

The resort of Zell am See is located in the southwest of Salzburg on the shores of Lake Zeller See, 80 km from Salzburg. The skiing season here lasts from the end of December to the end of March. The resort has many ski schools with programs of different difficulty levels. The slopes of Zell am See are mainly for intermediate skiers, but Zell am See is also considered an ideal place for beginner snowboarders. The resort has children’s ski schools and gardens. Check jibin123 for customs regulations and visa requirements of Austria.

Together with the Kaprun Glacier, Zell am See forms the European Sports Region.

Another plus of the resort is the “isolation” of tracks of different complexity from each other (with rare exceptions).

Zell am See Hotels

In Zell am See there is a huge selection of hotels: from luxurious 5 * to economical “three rubles”. But what the city lacks is budget and cozy family pensions: it is better to go to neighboring Kaprun or Schutdorf for them.

In Zell am See, you can choose from three districts where most of the hotels are located. It is most convenient to stay in the central part of the resort: the main Zeller Bergbahn lift is literally a couple of minutes walk from there. Another option is to stay in one of the hotels overlooking the lake, for example, the old Grand Zell Am See 4*. However, it should be borne in mind that a railway line runs close to the hotels in this area: sometimes it is noisy. Finally, you can choose a hotel near the Schmittenhohebahn ski lift in the upper part of Zell am See: from there it is not far from the center, and the ski lift is less busy.

It is also worth paying attention to the hotel Der Waldhof 4 * in the upper part of Zell am See, the economical Seehof 3 * located on the lake or located in the very center of Neue Post 4 *, Gruener Baum 3 * and Traube 3 *.

Trails in Zell am See

From Zell am See, the cabin lift goes to the Mittelstation station, from where, changing two chair lifts, you can reach the top of the Schmittenhohe (Schmittenhohe, 2000 m). From this peak, the tracks descend into the valley in four rays. The southern “beam” leads to the town of Schüttdorf, the central one to Zell am See, and the two northern ones converge at Schmittental. Going down to Schutdorf and Schmittental, Zell am See can be reached by constantly running buses.

For beginners, the narrow slopes in the Schutdorf area are suitable: there is easy skiing and good snow. Also, beginners can recommend descents in the Schmittenhöhe area. The resort has several good long trails for cross-country skiing.

Entertainment and attractions

In the 18th century, the city was a monastic cloister, which is probably where its name came from (die Zelle – monastic cell). The town is interesting both on its own and together with its traditional evenings on the lake with Austrian music, the “Mountain Festival” in June with fireworks and many beautiful walking routes. In addition, just an hour’s drive from the resort is Salzburgwhere you should definitely go at least for a day.

Restaurants, cafes, bars, discos, bowling, cinema, swimming pool, skating rink. You can ride a sleigh on the lake and visit Salzburg.
