A master’s degree in Business Administration, commonly referred to as an MBA can be an ideal option for people who want to advance their career in management. Admissions requirements vary greatly depending on the school, but applicants are generally required to take an exam before applying. There are several different types of MBA entrance examinations that schools can require applicants to take; in some cases, you might need two competitions.

GMAT

GRE

Test of English as a foreign language, or TOEFL, may be required in addition to the GMAT or the GRE exam. The test is usually only required of applicants who do not speak English as their first language; It may not be required of persons who have obtained a degree from a school where English was the primary language of instruction. MBA candidates who speak a foreign language to determine if they are required to take the TOEFL.
Considerations
It is important to note that taking one of the required MBA entrance examinations does not guarantee admission to a degree program. An applicant’s grade point average (GPA), letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and a resume outlines work experience is also taken into consideration during the application process. An interview is also generally required. As MBA programs tend to be competitive and limited spaces may be available that meets the minimum score requirements for entrance examinations will not secure a spot in a program.
Undergraduate Preparation
You need not major in business as an undergraduate to find success in graduate business school. Top business schools regularly report that a high percentage of their students come from liberal arts backgrounds, with English and history among the most common undergraduate majors.
If you are still an undergraduate, consider classes that will allow you to explore a wide range of disciplines. Coursework in English is often cited for honing verbal and written communications skills. Coursework in more technical fields such as economics, statistics, and math can help you build a good foundation for material you will see again in an MBA program.
The most important consideration is to do well in whatever program of studies you choose. Business schools give grade point average (GPA) significant weight when evaluating MBA applicants.
