MBA in Finance Management
Do you have a knack for numbers, enjoy analytical work and the desire to take on responsibility in a managerial position? Then an MBA in Finance / Financial Management could be just the right thing for you, because it combines specialized knowledge from the field of finance with business know-how. Here you will find all serious information about an MBA in this area – from the costs and content to all business schools to experience reports from graduates.
Numerous financial processes run in companies every day. As the size of the company increases, so does its complexity – this is where the financial manager comes in. With his business and financial know-how, he is able to plan and control these processes. He keeps an overview of income, expenses and investments and thus helps his employer to keep an eye on things.
In order to pursue a career as a finance manager, you not only have to be familiar with (inter) national financial markets and current economic trends, but also with knowledge of internal processes and processes. The various Finance MBAs therefore also deal with topics such as corporate management, law and personnel management. You will find all the information below.
The MBA degree in financial management is aimed primarily at everyone who is seeking leadership positions in industry, banking and insurance. In terms of content, everything revolves around a combination of financial, business and management content. The curriculum therefore includes modules such as international financial markets, risk management, corporate finance and valuation, financial instruments and business planning, but also marketing, personnel management, commercial law, marketing, controlling or accounting.
MBA courses combine theoretical and practical content, but usually have a strong, practice-oriented focus. The same applies to the study of financial management: The students learn content using case studies and implement them in project work and homework. Depending on the course of study, the subject area of finance / financial management is offered as a focus of a General Management Master of Business Administration, such as at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. Here, students first complete general modules from the areas of business administration and management, and from the third semester onwards they can select “Financial Risk Management” as one of several possible specializations.
Study forms and course
Since MBA courses in the field of financial management are generally aimed at prospective employees, they are mainly offered as part-time studies. Depending on the model, the duration of the study and the specific process or organization also differ.
Numerous Finance MBA are offered as part-time study courses. For example, the events take place once a month from Friday to Sunday. There are also variants in which teaching takes place several times a week, or there are also study options in which lectures take place for a whole week per quarter.
Another variant that is also often found is the purely part-time MBA distance learning program, such as that offered by Danube University Krems. In this case, the participants acquire the contents completely in the space and time flexible self-study; online platforms and forums are available to assist you. The students usually only have to be present for the exams.
However, some universities, such as Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, combine distance learning with a series of face-to-face events. Around four to five Saturdays a semester are reserved for compulsory lessons that are held at the university itself.
Requirements
MBA degrees are usually aimed at academics with professional experience. Accordingly, you not only have to have a first university degree (e.g. Bachelor, Diplom or Magister), but also a certain degree of suitable, professional experience. Usually one to a maximum of four years are required here.
Depending on the university, additional, individual requirements can also be requested, such as an additional selection process. For example, other universities require a minimum age to participate in the MBA in Financial Management.
The Austrian Aditus Bildungs- und Unternehmensconsulting GmbH also enables students without a university degree to participate in their MBA program. Alternatively, the Abitur and four years of professional experience or (without Abitur) completed vocational training and six years of professional experience are recognized as admission requirements.
