GERMAN MBA STUDENTS BECOME VICE WORLD CHAMPIONS
In April 2012, thirteen renowned business schools fought for the world title in negotiation. Three German MBA students made it into second place.
Race horses, wine bottles and margins for financial products – these were the preliminary topics for this year’s “The Negotiation Challenge 2012” (TNC) in Paris – and Germany won the Vice World Champion title.
MBA students from thirteen business schools, including Harvard Business School, Warshaw School of Economics and Chinese University of Hong Kong, participated in this English-language competition in 2012. In the end it was a home win for the French ESSEC Business School, but the three students of the German HHL team Martin Kempgen, Nikolas Starke and Felix Wunsch are happy about the second place.
TRAIN NEGOTIATION SKILLS
The World Negotiation Championship has been taking place since 2007 and was launched by the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences and the Harvard Law School. In this way, MBA students should train their negotiating skills in competition with other business schools.
In addition to teamwork, resilience and intercultural exchange, the participants learn that it is not just the outcome of a negotiation that is important for companies. The very nature of the negotiation process has a decisive impact on future business relationships.
In four preliminary rounds, the participants of the TNC negotiate company shares in realistic cases. In the final it was a matter of aid payments from the United Union to the company Greekonia, which was in financial need.
Vice World Champion Starke sums up: “It was an incredibly inspiring atmosphere for negotiating and getting to know each other.”
