EBS BUSINESS SCHOOL
The EBS Business School, founded in 1971, was one of the first private scientific universities for business studies in Germany.
THREE MBA PROGRAMS
It offers three MBA courses. In addition to a full-time MBA, the Executive MBA in Health Care Management exists as a part-time MBA. The third program, the Business School Executive MBA, is a collaboration with Durham University Business School and also a part-time program. In 2012, the EBS received EQUIS accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development.
FOR MANAGERS WITH PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
The MBA programs are aimed at managers with at least three years of professional experience, and five years of professional experience are required for EMBA Health Care Management. The full-time program lasts 18 months, but can be shortened to twelve months through longer work experience. This also reduces the tuition fees from EUR 32,800 to EUR 23,500. The two part-time programs are designed to last two years and also cost around EUR 33,000.
INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE IS GROWING
The EBS University is ranked 47th in the “Financial Times European Business School Ranking 2014” as the best newcomer. It is one of the top 5 business schools in Germany and is becoming increasingly important internationally.
INTERNAL PROBLEMS
However, the EBS has internal difficulties. Legal proceedings against one of the ex-presidents started in 2011 and have not yet ended. Recently a president had to resign. The reputation of the MBA courses has not (to date) been harmed.

THE GERMAN JOB MARKET
Between skepticism and new opportunities – the job market in Germany is colorful for MBA graduates and offers many new challenges.
Too high salary expectations, a lack of integration skills and excessive career expectations – these are just a few of the prejudices that MBA graduates in Germany are confronted with on the job market. The medium-sized employers in particular were traditionally rather skeptical about the MBA. Your objection: The graduates of the business schools are too focused on management techniques and can hardly adapt to specific products, employee groups and corporate cultures.
In recent years the picture seems to be changing gradually. This is shown not least by the survey carried out by the Federal Association of German Management Consultants (BDU) some time ago. The survey of 680 personnel consultants had shown that an MBA can increase the career opportunities for a management position in medium-sized companies even above average. Nothing has changed about that at the moment, as Wolfram Tröger, board member of the Personnel Consulting Association at the BDU confirms.
ENTRY WITH MBA
In contrast to countries such as Great Britain or the USA, there is no special job market for MBA graduates in Germany. However, some companies offer special entry opportunities for MBA graduates. In some cases, individual recruiters also focus on creating entry-level jobs for MBA graduates. Personnel managers are increasingly represented at MBA trade fairs in order to make initial contacts with future graduates.
The combination of professional experience and interdisciplinary qualifications such as leadership and communication skills, which distinguishes the graduates particularly, is in great demand at many companies. Generalists with an MBA are often sought in the consultancy industry. There are often also targeted further training opportunities for the employees of the large consulting firms. In this area in particular, you should not hesitate to ask your supervisor for support.
In 75 percent of cases, the initiative for such additional training comes from the employees, only in 44 percent would the employee be made aware of this possibility by a manager. If you are considering starting an MBA course, it can do no harm to ask your supervisor for support.
